If you haven't worked for a government entity before, the recruitment steps can be a little confusing. Don't worry - we're here to help explain the process so you're ready to build your career in public service.

Application To Hire
- Submit Application
Submit your application and completed supplemental questions before the final filing date.
*Talent Tip- Be as thorough and complete as possible, responses such as "See Resume" or "In Attached" may not be considered complete.
- Application Screening
After the final filing date, applications will be screened to the minimum qualifications and/or special requirements. Depending on the number of applicants, a higher screening may be required.
*Talent Tip - No AI screening tools used here! All applications are screened by the Personnel Unit, and status updates will be emailed after completion.
- Pre-Qualification Review
Some recruitments may have an Oral Exam and/or Written Exam dependent on department need and number of screened in applications. Exam scoring may determine candidate ranking.

- Eligible List Established
Candidates who pass all pre-qualification steps are placed on an Eligible List and referred to the hiring department for consideration.
- Hiring Interview
Hiring departments may opt for a hiring interview with candidates from the referred Eligible List.
- First Conditional Offer
If you've been selected, you will receive a conditional offer. The offer is contingent on passing a Background Investigation that includes fingerprinting.
Length of time in backgrounds may vary depending on position. Connect with your background investigator to coordinate best time to notify your current employer.
- Second Conditional Offer
Once you've passed your background, you will receive a second conditional offer. The offer is contingent on passing a Physical and Drug Screening based on the job classification.
This will be an in-person, mandatory appointment. Scheduling will be coordinated based on the provider's and your availability. Timeline may vary depending on physical type.
- Final Offer
Welcome to the team!
You'll meet with Personnel prior to your start date to complete onboarding tasks. Check out our Pre-Onboarding page for a document checklist.
